Magic Beans

Have you ever considered the diversity of seeds? Or the fact that all of our food starts in these little inert bundles of energy? That with the right amount of water, seeds will suddenly burst forth and start plants with no other help from anything?

Seeds truly are magical. Right now, we’re celebrating “Seed Season” on the farm. It’s our current “unofficial” season. Seed Season is the time of the year when everything is cold and white. It's the time when green growth and fresh vegetables seem far away but the glossy seed catalogs promise that growing season will in fact be here soon! It's the time for dreaming and planning and exploring new possibilities of different plants to grow.

Over the past few weeks, Dirk and I have been planning what we want our Farm Share members to receive. We've been pouring over the seed catalogs and weighing out the pros/cons of different vegetable varieties. But finally, we've got our seeds! So to celebrate, we wanted to play a game called Guess That Seed.

Below, we have 12 pictures of 12 different types of seeds. They are labeled only by our children's alphabetic magnets (for scale - all of the magnets are the same size, about 1.5 inches tall). We have a list of 15 options of what the seeds can be There are three extra options than there are pictures - we didn't want to make the game too easy :) . Correctly email us the list of letters matched with the correct seed varieties, and you could win a prize pack!

The prize pack includes: our popular Jalapeño Sriracha hot sauce, pear butter, and tomato butter. Winners can be from wherever (except overseas - sorry international friends/family) and we will have up to three winners. Winners must have a perfect score or the top score (depending on how seed savvy folks are).

Email us your list of letters matched with seed varieties by: February 7th for a chance to win the prize back.
